Diggin 7/14

Bought about 40 LP’s this past weekend, with lots of gems. Plus, finally got a copy of Cerrone‘s “Rocket in the Pocket” incase I feel like throwing a block party lol. Below are a few…

  • Joe FarrellUpon This Rock – If you don’t know what this album is, bang your head against the wall and try again. Embarrassingly enough, I didn’t own this LP before. The album features legends like Steve Gadd and Herbie Hancock but is mostly known for the drum break.
  • Fred Wesley and the J.B.’sDamn Right I Am SomebodyJames Brown / George Clinton bandmate Fred Wesley gets down with some hardcore funk. Contains the classic sample “Blow Your Head“.
  • Roy Ayers UbiquityVibrations – This is another one of those albums that is so well known, that I just never picked up. Finally got a decent copy for $5.00. Features the awesome cut “Searching“.
  • Scholastic Rock, Inc.Multiplication Rock – One of the better known children’s albums that’s been sampled. Also features vocals from Grady Tate!?
  • Joao DonatoDonatodeodato – Everyone knows Eumir Deodato, but not many know about this rare LP out of Brazil. Smooth/Funky Jazz fusion recorded right after “2001” became a hit. Also features Ray Barretto.
  • U.S Navy BandPort Authority – Propaganda at its best! The Navy recorded a super funky album in hopes of luring people to join. Features a dope drum break.
