Ol’ Dirty Bastard – Dirty & Stinkin’ (Original Version)

Like most of us 90’s hip-hop fans, you probably watched the new Wu-Tang Clan documentary Of Mics and Men. If you were lucky enough to be in the NYC area the other weekend, you may have also stopped by the pop-up Wu-Museum at Dolby Soho. Both stirred up lots of nostalgia for me and I went looking for an Ol’ Dirty Bastard cut on YouTube – “Dirty & Stinkin’“.

I had the track on an old cassette back in ’97 but was always looking for a better quality version. I tried a few of the 12 inches under the same name last year, but it was a completely different version from 1996. Of course, everyone knows the ICP version too… But what about the version I knew???

Well… I couldn’t find it. So I decided to dig deep in my cassettes and fish it out. Note, there is a lot of hiss but that is to be expected for something that was most likely a demo and over-dubbed plenty of times before it got to me.

This version from 1995 still features Sunz of Man’s 60 Second Assassin. However, the beat is completely different (sounds similar to “Protect Ya Neck (The Jump Off)“. Also, the vocals are much more rawer than the 96 version.

Check it out!
